I've only played through about 20% of the Solo career, but I already like how they handled a lot of stuff. So far, I'd rate it as just a touch harder than the songs in Rock Band 2. Certainly, it's easier than GH3. But, as in the past, there may be a wall around the 50% to 60% point.
GH:WT doesn't share my problems with RB2 and scoring. See.. I'll never be as good as, well... even most of the people on this site. So, leaderboards don't particularly interest me. However, what is important is steadily improving on my own scores. So, I expect the system to keep track of those scores (and star-ratings). RB2 failed me in that respect, and GH:WT seems to be handling it much better. When I go into QuickPlay or even if I plan on creating my own set in the Solo Career, each song displays with the top scores and star values for each difficulty level. I haven't confirmed it's based on my current instrument, but as I have already chosen the instrument by the time it shows up, I expect it will.
I haven't tried the band career, and don't even know if it handles a one-person band. Feel free to let me know in the comments.
I'm not sure how much I like the new guitar, though. It feels like a cross between the Les Paul and the RB Strat. So far, I definitely don't care for the slide bar. I might just need to get used to it. I don't know. The concept of using it on hollow note sequences sounds interesting, and it's interesting in practice. But, doesn't it just work like an easier HO/PO system? One where I don't have to be 'on-note' for the next one to work? I mean, I can miss a hollow note, then pick up the next one without strumming. Imagine how much easier (to pass) the intro to TTFAF would be under that system?
Extended sustains, I like. It adds a nice additional charting feature.
All-open notes on the bass track look great! I saw them played at a demo, but haven't tried them out myself.
But, the most important plus... they brought back Clive!
